Epitalon
A synthetic tetrapeptide developed in Russia, based on a pineal-gland extract. A frequent subject of aging (longevity) research, mostly from a single research group.

Level of evidence
Preclinical — cell and animal studiesWhat it is
Epitalon is a four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed at the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, modelled on epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland.
State of the research
Publications describe effects on telomerase activity in cell cultures and lifespan studies in animals. Most of the work comes from the same group and independent replication is limited. Its effects in humans are not established.
